Celebrating Four Years of Dragon Ball FighterZ

Bandai Namco has announced a massive 4th anniversary update for Dragon Ball FighterZ, the critically acclaimed fighting game that has become a staple of the competitive gaming scene. This update promises to breathe new life into the game with a host of new features and content.

New Characters

The anniversary update will introduce five new characters to the game’s roster:

  • Ultra Instinct Goku (Mastered): The complete version of Goku’s Ultra Instinct form, featuring enhanced speed and power.

  • Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta: The Dragon Ball GT version of Vegeta, making his debut in Dragon Ball FighterZ.

  • Broly (DBS): The Dragon Ball Super version of Broly, with his unique Legendary Super Saiyan transformation.

  • Jiren: The powerful Pride Trooper from the Tournament of Power arc, known for his immense strength and stoic personality.

  • Android 21 (Good): The benevolent version of Android 21, featuring different abilities from her evil counterpart.

New Stages

The update will also include three new stages:

  • World Tournament Arena (Night): A nighttime version of the iconic World Tournament Arena, featuring enhanced lighting effects.

  • Planet Namek (Final Battle): The location of the final battle between Goku and Frieza, with destructible environment elements.

  • Beerus’ Planet: Beerus’ home planet, featuring unique hazards and interactive elements.

Gameplay Updates

Several gameplay updates are being introduced to improve the overall experience:

  • Balance Changes: Comprehensive balance changes to all existing characters, addressing power imbalances and improving underused fighters.

  • New Mechanics: The introduction of a new “Meteor Chain” mechanic that allows players to string together powerful combos more easily.

  • Training Mode Improvements: Enhanced training mode with new features to help players practice and improve their skills.

  • Online Mode Updates: Improved online matchmaking and netcode, reducing lag and providing a better competitive experience.

Visual and Audio Updates

The game will receive several visual and audio enhancements:

Release Schedule

The anniversary update will be released in phases:

  • Phase 1: The free gameplay updates and the first two characters (Ultra Instinct Goku and Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta) will be released in March 2026.

  • Phase 2: The remaining three characters and the new stages will be released in May 2026.

  • Phase 3: The competitive scene updates and final balance adjustments will be released in July 2026.

Cross-Platform Play

One of the most requested features by fans, cross-platform play, will be introduced in the anniversary update. Players on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC will be able to compete against each other online.

System Requirements Update

With the graphical enhancements, the PC version of the game will receive updated system requirements. However, Bandai Namco has stated that they are committed to maintaining compatibility with older hardware as much as possible.

Future Plans

Bandai Namco has confirmed that Dragon Ball FighterZ will continue to receive support beyond the 4th anniversary update. They have hinted at additional characters and content being released throughout 2026 and into 2027.
